- The standard: Less stringent materials, such as 1.5 lb/ft² mineral fiber insulation or 3/8-inch OSB.
- The purpose: To prevent the foam from igniting due to a small, accidental open flame, like a plumber’s torch or an electrical spark. It is tested under a shorter, 4-minute-and-15-second fire test.

Intumescent Coatings

An intumescent coating is a specialized, fire-retardant paint that swells and chars when exposed to extreme heat.
